A decision made at 5am when I couldn’t go back to sleep and the weather was decent seen me pop off to Lloyds Meadow and take the opportunity to fish Badger lake, having had a few good sessions throughout the winter I was intrigued to see how the newly introduced stock carp had come on in 4 or 5 months.
It was like the weather was teasing me as soon as I got my gear settled on the peg the rain came and stayed for the most of the short session I was there.
After a short but helpful chat with Danny the order of the day; keep the feed going in little and often fishing 8m out in about 6ft of water with 3 light rigs to fish 3 different depths as needed when the bites cool off, no margin swim today with being a short session but on the feeder I chose 8mm trigonella pellets on the band with trigonella feed pellets.
The fish were wanting it feeding micros and red maggots and swapping round corn and maggots on the hook brought plenty of small mirror carp which certainly have doubled in weight in such a short time.
Fishing light and shalla brought some great Ide and roach and with another rig fishing over depth brought some realy good crucians, skimmers and perch.
Meanwhile the feeder line had been a bit quite for the bigger fish, so I came away from the island and went into the deeper water which brought instant fish several carp between 6-8lb all on the trigonella 8mm banded pellet.
A short session on the impressive badger lake seen me catch plenty and use plenty of bait, no wonder these fish are putting on weight so quick, not so many big fish today for me but the local knowledge has put right for my next visit, the quality of the roach and ide is very impressive throw in with that the crucians and tench and you can get yourself a right good mixed bag.
